How I Win Over My Urges?

Hello everyone,

So, I just hit a milestone in my journey of self-improvement, and I would really like to share it with you all.

But before I get to that, let me tell you why I am so happy about sharing this achievement here. What is it all about? Okay, it’s such a big deal for me because here it’s me, a simple everyday guy with nearly non-existent self-control against the massive driving forces- URGES!

Imagine that.

Now for me, one of the biggest urges that I was giving into was using porn whenever I could. I was using it as many as 4 times a day!!

And, what was really worse? Well, the after-effects! The instant guilt of knowing I am doing something really out of place. The self-loathing for giving into urges all the time. Well, it was exhausting.

So, I decided to give ‘resisting my urges’ a chance.

And God, it was an immense struggle. Mainly because I guess it was not just about resisting the immediate gratification porn use. No, it goes beyond that. It was also about dealing with the many emotions, triggers, and habits that fueled them.

What’s more, in some cases (like mine), urges often intensify during certain times or situations, making them even more difficult to resist.

As for me, it’s the weekends!

Weekends are usually my Achilles’ heel when it comes to dealing with my porn urges, especially the kind that can destroy all my progress, taking me back to square one.

And I was really tired of losing to myself. There was this nagging realization to just bear through ONCE.

I understood I needed more effort on my part, and guess what? I made it through! That is why it’s all such a big deal for me here.

Now, as for the journey so far, well, it’s not easy, but it’s good enough so far.  You see, I have been on this journey for about a week now, and let me tell you, it’s been a lot of work, mentally and physically.

The urges to watch porn, maybe just once, were relentless, especially when I was just starting out. But for once, I refused to let them dictate my actions. Instead, I kept myself busy with anything and everything I could think of.

Whether it was going for a walk, diving into a good book, joining a sports club, or catching up on some chores around the house, I made sure to stay occupied. I also worked on keeping out the temptation from my face. I installed a porn blocker on all my devices.

And you know what? It worked. I managed to keep the streak alive. And let me tell you, the feeling of fulfillment that washed over me was like nothing else. Feeling in control feels just so amazing.

Sure, I might be a little tired now as I crawl into bed (from all the extra activities I am doing to keep myself distracted), but it’s a good kind of tiredness. It’s the tiredness that comes from knowing you have overcome a challenge and come out on top.

But here’s the thing I have realized through this experience: it’s not just about fighting porn or any urges, for that matter. It’s about gaining control of ourselves.

That’s what I did.

I worked on controlling my emotions and urges. I understood how important self-control is. And this is just not limited to porn urges; it can be anything, kicking a bad habit, reaching a fitness goal, or achieving success in your career.

And when you win over something like a porn addiction, it feels so blissful. It is like unlocking a whole new level of self-mastery. Suddenly, other challenges that once seemed insurmountable start to look a whole lot more manageable.

So, to anyone out there who might be struggling with their own urges, I just want to say this: you can REALLY get over it.

And remember, you are not alone; we all have our battles to fight. Sometimes, it feels like we’re fighting them alone. But the truth is, there’s strength in numbers. Reach out to others for support, lean on your friends and family, and never underestimate the power of self-determination.

Trust me; if I can do it, you can too.

Here’s to conquering our urges, one day at a time.

Take care,

An Average Guy
